Director, IT & Operational Excellence

LMC is Canada’s largest specialist care provider in diabetes and endocrinology.  We’re dedicated to transforming diabetes care for the better, making it more accessible, comprehensive and patient-centred than ever before. Our interdisciplinary team of specialists consists of over 50 Endocrinologists, 34 Diabetes Educators (Nurses, Dietitians), Pharmacists, Optometrists and Chiropodists/Podiatrists.  We deliver outstanding care and customer service to over 68,000 patients and their referring physicians across eleven sites, in three provinces (Ontario, Alberta and Quebec). 

Currently, our rapidly expanding team is in need of a Director, IT & Operational Excellence who can work for us on a full-time basis, supporting all of our LMC clinics.

Position Summary: The Director, IT & Operational Excellence is responsible for advancing LMC’s strategic priorities related to “Infrastructure” and “Quality & Efficiency” by leading organization-wide systems improvement and driving operational excellence. This includes IT and telecommunications; process improvement; facility improvement; data analytics and reporting.

The Director, IT & Operational Excellence will partner with and provide the highest quality of support to the CEO, the Senior Management Team and Middle Management for all matters related to systems and process improvement.  The role reports directly to the CEO.

As Director of IT & Operational Excellence, responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • IT & Telecommunications
    • Oversee all technology systems and operations and evaluate them according to established goals
    • Devise and establish IT policies and systems to support the implementation of strategies set by senior management
    • Analyze the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs
    • Purchase efficient and cost effective technological equipment and software
    • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems
    • Manage IT staff and partner with 3rd party IT Data Centre Management and Help Desk vendor
    • Control IT CapEx and Operations budget and report on expenditure
    • Assist in building relationships with IT vendors and creating cost-efficient contracts
  • Operational Excellence (OE) and Process Improvement
    • Drive business operations transformation, using lean and six sigma knowledge and tools along with strong leadership competencies across the value chain at both site and corporate levels
    • Develop and foster a culture of continuous improvement by leading improvement activities involving staff and clinicians at all levels of the organization
    • Develop and implement an OE governance process focused on project identification, prioritization, execution and continuous improvement effectiveness
    • Serve as an OE subject matter expert to the organization
    • Develop reporting systems and metrics for sustainable compliance of improvements
    • Coordinate the planning and execution, from initiation to completion, of OE projects working with department management to fully implement and assure sustaining mechanisms are in place
    • Analyze expenditures and supplier contracts across organization – identify opportunities to eliminate waste, improve quality and reduce expenditures
    • Partner with management team and contractors to support the design, planning, and construction of new clinic facilities (includes new clinic launches, moves and expansions)
    • Manage OE and Facility Project Management staff
  • Data Analytics and Reporting
    • Work with senior management team to organize all the data, information and systems needed to support and monitor clinical, operational and financial performance
    • Develop a library of standard analytical reports used to manage performance
    • Identify trends and investigate variances to support performance improvement
    • Partner with subject matter experts in finance, clinical operations, sales /marketing, and other areas to develop analyses and recommendations
    • Manage Data Analyst

Qualifications- Education, Experience & Certification                                            

  • Bachelor Degree or equivalent required
  • 5 – 7 years of IT and operations improvement experience, preferably in a health care environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to speak French as asset
  • Adaptable and ready to work in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Resourceful and detail-oriented
  • Must be a self-starter and effective problem-solver
  • Strong business acumen to align both business objectives and operations strategies with corporate goals
  • Strong project management skills and effective execution skills to ensure successful delivery/implementation of operations projects 
  • Adept at building and managing relationships effectively; ability to gain the confidence of business leaders quickly 
  • Tenacious, resourceful, flexible and adaptable 
  • Takes initiative to identify where changes are needed takes charge to drive changes forward 
  • Business travel required
